A Clinical Study of Intestinal Tuberculosis

Abstract
This is a study and analysis of 20 patients who were admitted, treated and proved to be intestinal tuberculosis in Dept. of General Surgery, Seoul Red Cross Hospital, from September, 1969 to October, 1972. The results are as follows;
1. The ratio of male to female was 1 : 1. 2, and the high incidence was 4th decade in both sex.
2. The average duration of the disease was less than 1 year.
3. Common symptoms were abdominal pain (80%), nausea and vomiting (70%), and indigestion (50%), but these were not pathognomonic.
4. The helpful diagnostic measures were radiological, histopathological, and microbiological study, but 95% of these cases were misdiagnosed preoperatively. 5. The predilection site was ileocecal region (70%).
6. The routine chest X-ray revealed that 6 patients (30%) were negative to tuberculosis, 2 patients (10%) had old lesion and 12 patients(60% had active lesion.
7. All the patients had complications, such as intestinal obstruction (50%) and intestinal perfo. ration(50%).
8. The choice of treatment was resection-anastomosis.
